Responsibilities:
Directs the Physical Therapy Department Staff.
Supports and empowers staff to embrace the mission and value statements of the organization.
Ability to observe and evaluate treatment, recommends changes to physician if needed.
Ability to perform an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy.
Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in physical therapy.
Makes appropriate physician contract for intervention.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Formulates a teaching plan with patients based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of all physical therapy treatments.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
Involves patient and family in formation of a plan of care as appropriate.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
Makes recommendations regarding equipment utilization and needs.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administrative team.
Coordinates and directly patient care to ensure patient needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department.
Prepares reports as requested regarding physical therapy services.
Understands the primary data systems used by Modoc Medical Center, including Healthland.
Consults with other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
Maintains performance improvement activities for the department.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Performs competency evaluations on all applicable staff within the department.
Performs management activities including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, termination, and department staffing and scheduling.
Actively participates in the budget and strategic planning process.
Studies current trends and developments in physical therapy through current literature and professional societies.
Skills:
Three (3) or more years of previous experience in physical therapy preferred Current California licensure or certification as a physical therapist.
Knowledge of physical therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology.
Knowledge of disease processes and related causative factors.
Knowledge of benefits/ values of rehabilitative medicine and physical therapy agents.
Knowledge of infection control, sterile techniques and related impact on rehabilitative medicine practice and equipment.
Current BCLS certification.
Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Physical Therapy Director is responsible for directing physical therapy services.
Coordinates and supervises operation of the department, administers physical agents prescribed by a referring physician.
Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities, and assures competency of all personnel.
Assists in formulating budget, evaluations, department performance versus budget and takes appropriate action to remain in budget guidelines.
Develops and implements system of reviewing department charges, ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
The Physical Therapy Director maintains efficient and effective department operations while assuring compliance with all state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.
