Information Technology Specialist (CUSTSPT)

The incumbent will serve in a developmental assignment, which is designed to provide the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience to perform the full range of routine and non-routine assignments with a high level of independence. The incumbent will perform work in computers, servers, network components, peripheral equipment, software, firmware, data, customer support, assist junior IT Specialists and related resources. The work will involve the planning, installation, configuration, testing, implementation and support of the above components in support of the Department's architecture and business needs. Work in Information Technology may be performed in any of the following specialty areas:
VistA - Functions include account management to include removing disuse status, adding or removing menus and keys and creating or modifying VistA devices. Customer Support/Help Desk - Functions include diagnosing and resolving problems in response to customer reported incidents. The work includes installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining customer hardware and software, and maintaining problem tracking and resolution databases. Operating Systems - Functions include installation, configuration, and management of hardware and software components of systems. The work includes evaluating, selecting, and installing system components. Policy and Planning - Functions include IT management activities such as recommendation for new hardware and software to support new clinical and administrative services. IT Inventory - Function includes annual IT wall to wall inventory at each of the Outpatient Clinics. Security - Functions include adhering to policies and procedures and Network Security Operations Center (NCOC) incident responses. System Administration - Functions include the installation and maintenance of new or modified hardware and operating systems and applications software under the guidance of the Region Service Line. Systems Analysis - Functions include preparing business for the application of IT solutions, ensuring the integration of all systems compnents. Work Schedule:

Specialized Experience GS-9:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07). Specialized experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Specialized experience would typically include skill in applying customer support concepts and methods sufficient to install, configure, and test software on customer workstations; troubleshooting and data analysis techniques and coordinating customer support activities; problem-solving; providing IT systems or equipment guidance and/or training; and communicating effectively orally and in writing to present alternative resolutions to problems. OR Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-09 level. Applicants must possess a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree as follows:
a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Specialized Experience GS-11:
Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-09) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Specialized experience would typically include skill in applying customer support concepts and methods sufficient to install, configure, and test software on customer workstations; troubleshooting and data analysis techniques and coordinating customer support activities; problem-solving; providing IT systems or equipment guidance and/or training; and communicating effectively orally and in writing to present alternative resolutions to problems. OR Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-11 level. Applicants must possess Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. AND, in addition to the experience described above, you must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below which must be supported by your resume and other application materials. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
