OUTPATIENT PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (TEMP/INTERMITTENT)

NOTE:
This is a TEMPORARY - INTERMITTENT appointment. A part-time or intermittent employee may not be scheduled for employment which will exceed 1820 hours or seven-eighths of full-time employment during a service year. (See VA Directive and Handbook 5007, Pay Administration). This position may be converted to a full-time permanent position without further competition. SALARY:
The salary posted on this announcement is for a full-time work schedule of 80 hours per pay period. Actual salary will be pro-rated based on actual hours worked and the location selected for. Dispensing Activities:
The Pharmacy Technician (Outpatient) uses computer generated labels to initiate filling process. Verifies computer generated label with prescription order. Selects appropriate drug, fills prescription and attaches correct label; documents appropriate filling data; opens and sorts incoming mail requests, prepares and enters mail refill requests into computer, prints prescription suspense and VISTA file regularly; prepares packages for mailing, sorts, release (via computer) and files new prescriptions, renewal and refill documents; receives incoming clinic ward order requests and fills ward orders as appropriate. Educates patients on medication refill process and status; generates prescription renewal requests and resolves routine system questions. Works with supervisor to meet requirements from regulatory agencies (DEA, OIG) or accreditation (JC). Inventory Control:
Coordinates the supply and demand of pharmaceuticals in all filling areas. Assists supervisor and procurement technician in setting inventory levels; maintains stock of all supplies and pharmaceuticals in a neat and orderly manner; supports procurement technician by screening inventory for depleted and outdated medications, by logging medications that need to be ordered and by preparing reports during inventory audits. Maintains and operates automatic prescription dispensing equipment including point of care machines, labeling devices, and equipment for packaging mail outs. Work Schedule:

Must be proficient in spoken and written English Certification. Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above. (must submit copy)
Experience:
One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level which provided a basic knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature; characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compound, and distribution of pharmaceuticals. In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer for appropriate action. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment. Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding with asceptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents. Knowledge and ability to perform compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas such as emergency carts. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the ability to input prescriptions and medication orders. Creditable

Experience:
Part-time experience as a pharmacy technician is credited according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a pharmacy technician would receive 1 week of full-time credit for each 2 weeks of half-time work. Quality of

To be creditable, pharmacy technician experience must be documented on the application and verified in an employment reference, or through other independent means. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-06. Reference:

The work requires standing, walking for short periods of time, light carrying and lifting under 15 pounds; bending, reaching, and stooping. The work also involves working around machinery with moving parts and working closely with others. Both eyes required (Glasses Okay), Depth perception, Ability to distinguish basic colors and distinguish shades of colors, hearing (aid permitted).

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
